Committee of the Chiefs of Military Medical Services in NATO

When military medical professionals from anywhere in the world take a look at the NATO structure, the presence of a high-level advisory body on military medical issues at NATO Headquarters might well be considered to be a most natural element. But indeed, having the “Committee of the Chiefs of Military Medical Services in NATO” (COMEDS) as one of the almost countless structures established to cover all the complex functional areas of military activity, for current operations or future planning, is far from natural. A glance to history shows that it took quite a strive to establish thiscommittee, and that NATO has lived for over 40 years without medical advice on the multinational level.
