Options for deploying the medical service taking Afghanistan as an example

The following contribution is based on my experiences and findings during my deployment between August 2006 and January 2007 as Deputy Medical Adviser (deputy department manager of the medical service and military medical adviser to the Commander) at ISAF Headquarters in Kabul. The options illustrated for deploying the medical service are mainly still in their initial stage and should be considered as a further development of the support provided up to now by the medical service to the civilian population in the countries where NATO armed forces are deployed.
