Basic Task of the Military Medical Service

To organize health care and create the readiness of joint medical resources for Army, Air Force and Navy for national and international missions of the Finnish Defence Forces (FDF). The Medical Service belongs to Logistics.

As part of the Logistics Command, the Centre for Military Medicine organizes FDF general medical support, specialised medical care and medical logistics as well as medical intelligence in all states of readiness. The Centre for Military Medicine acts as the learning, training and research centre in military medicine; in field, disaster and CBRN medicine; in environmental health care. 

The Centre also offers medical support required to maintain Army, Navy and AF in-service safety, fitness for service and a soldier’s performance. Health centres in garrisons are responsible for daily medical care of the conscripts and personnel. Centre for Military Medicine also operates National Aeromedical Centre and Diving Medical Centre.

In addition to medical personnel working in FDF organization, also reservists are an essential part of FDF medical system, especially in emergency conditions.

Civil-Military Cooperation

Strategic partnership with 21 national wellbeing services counties (specialist health care of conscripts, logistics of material and medicines). Chemical and Biological medical threat centres in cooperation with national authorities. Cooperation with the National Emergency Supply Agency to create readiness of medical material and medicines during a crisis.
