Blueroom – Mixed reality simulator for realistic medical training

At this year’s DiMiMED conference, SkillsMed presented Blueroom at its own stand – a mixed reality simulation system that breaks the boundaries of traditional medical training methods. Using state-of-the-art technology, the Blueroom Mixed Reality Simulator combines virtual scenarios with real interaction, taking the training and continuing education of medical personnel to a new level.

The Blueroom Mixed Reality Simulator is distributed by SkillsMed in Germany. The system combines physical training environments with immersive mixed reality technology.

Instead of purely virtual exercises, doctors and paramedics experience realistic interaction with patients, equipment and complex emergency situations. The system allows a wide variety of scenarios – from emergency care on the battlefield to routine hospital procedures – to be simulated accurately and repeatedly.

Immersive technology for realistic operating conditions

At the heart of the Blueroom is the integration of head-mounted displays, motion sensors and real-time feedback systems. This allows users to immerse themselves in an interactive 3D environment while using real instruments and patient models.

This combination of physical haptics and virtual simulation enables particularly authentic training in which motor skills, stress management and team coordination are taught.

Another highlight of the system is its adaptability. Instructors can individually configure training scenarios to train specific operational conditions, injury patterns or care procedures.

At the same time, all of the participants‘ actions are recorded and analysed – from reaction times and treatment decisions to communication within the team. This allows training progress to be objectively evaluated and specifically improved.

Application in military and civil defence

The Blueroom is aimed at both military medical units and civilian rescue services and clinics. The system offers enormous advantages, particularly in the field of emergency medicine: complex situations, such as mass casualties or treatment under combat conditions, can be practised without risk.
