After the disastrous seaquake before the SUMATRA island, the Federal Government had instigated extensive humanitarian aid measures. Intention of the Bundeswehr Central Medical Service (BCMS) was – among other things – to establish an Airmobile Surgical Hospital (AMSH) in the disaster area after prior exploration of the operational capabilities.
