At the Milipol exhibition in Paris, Hamburg-based Carpetlight is presenting the XPLight series, a highly flexible, ultra-lightweight lighting system for the military, police and special forces. Three models – XP Alpha 2+, XP Delta+ and XP Tentacle640 – cover a wide range of tactical applications.
The demands placed on modern tactical lighting are constantly increasing: it must be robust, portable, quick to deploy and adaptable – especially in mobile operations.
With its new XPLight series, Carpetlight offers a system for multiple applications. The panels are based on highly flexible LED technology, combined with low weight and a structure that can be adapted to almost any surface and any situation – without breaking.
The system is primarily aimed at military units, special forces and tactical police forces. There are basically two versions, one of which comes with control electronics on the light strip, while the other has to be wired and can be connected in series, for example as tent lighting.
XP Alpha 2+ – tactical light for the leg pocket
The smallest version of the XPLight series is the XP Alpha 2+. This tactical version for the leg pocket was developed for scenarios in which mobility and camouflage are top priorities. The panel can be folded, rolled or attached to helmets, protective vests and vehicles. For operations in confined spaces, technical searches or vehicle interventions, it offers pinpoint illumination with minimal signature.
Weighing just 320 grams, it is easy to carry and offers a high degree of flexibility in terms of mounting options. The XP Alpha 2+ is 38 cm long and 10 cm wide, offers 7 watts of power from its integrated battery and emits white, red or infrared light in several brightness levels.
The control panel of the entire XPLight series is simple and intuitive. The battery charge level can be easily read via status LEDs. The XP Delta+ is a slightly larger, but equally mobile and flexible tactical light. However, the light strip, control element and battery are separate from each other.
The XP Delta+ has a significantly larger light surface, making it ideal for illuminating command posts, treatment areas, workshop areas or buildings during operations. Despite its size, the panel remains extremely light and can be attached to almost any surface using Velcro, clips or magnets.
XP Tentacle640 – special lighting for complex structures and search operations
Carpetlight also presented the XP Tentacle640, a highly adaptable lighting system for tents, in Paris. The segmented, ‘tentacle-like’ structure allows the panel to be wrapped around pipes, debris, poles or vehicle parts.
As an example of its application, the manufacturer cites tent structures, inside which the light strips are connected in series and connected to a power source.
The particular advantage is that when the tent is being set up, the lights do not have to be dismantled beforehand like rigid structures. They simply remain in the tent and do not have to be reattached when it is set up again. Red and white are also available as colours here.
Tactical lighting systems – XPLight
Flexible LED panels such as the XPLight series offer clear tactical added value. According to the manufacturer, the LED strips are virtually indestructible – they can be bent and rolled multiple times or run over by a vehicle, for example, without causing cable breaks or similar damage.
Their portability and rapid deployment ensure that light can be brought into hard-to-reach areas and, if necessary, can also be used in the infrared range.
