DiMiMED 2014
The second Disaster and Military Medical technology conference (DiMiMed) took place on the 12th and 13th of November in Düsseldorf as part of MEDICA, the world’s largest trade fair for medical technology.
After the resounding success of the first DiMiMed last year, the conference was extended by one day at the suggestion of the participants 150 participants from 26 countries took part in the 2-day event.
Renowned experts from the different medical services up to flag officer level and universities were present. Befitting for MEDICA, the technical lectures were supplemented by experts from the medical technology industry. The on-site exhibition subsequently allowed participants to enlarge upon the lectures.
The 40 lectures engaged the participants in the organisational aspects of different medical services, their impact on the deployment as well as topics such as traumatology and the associated problems of suitable therapies in the field and at home.
They were led through the varied programme by the chief editor MCIF, Rear Admiral uh MC (ret) Dr Büttner and Brigadier General (ret.) Dr van der Meer.
Asides from traumatology which was once again a major topic this year, the lectures regarding diagnostic possibilities in the field, especially in view of the current Ebola crisis, were met with particular interest.
Intensive talks during breaks and a shared dinner in a particularly congenial environment, which also saw the participation of the director of the Düsseldorf trade fair, were very effective in intensifying the international exchange of ideas.
In view of the positive reaction of the participants, it is again planned to hold the DiMiMed during the MEDICA trade fair. We would be very pleased to hear any of your suggestions with regards to topics.
