All IFAK Versions can be equipped with hemostatic agents. Here we are in a close partnership with battle proof products from AXIO Biosolutions. We distribute AXIO hemostatic dressing materials prepared with Chitosan. Tested according several mil and clinical standard- we think this is currently the best available option for the users. All products with NSN numbers.
Chitosan is a biopolymer obtained by depolymerization of natural chitin. It has the ability to stop bleeding quickly by binding with the blood and forming a gel - like substance that seals the wound. Chitosan is known for its biocompatible and bioactive properties.
Axiostat is mainly used for severe bleeding, for example in the case of injuries caused by accidents or in emergency medicine. It is easy to use and can be applied by trained medical personnel or first aiders.
To use Axiostat correctly, you should follow the instructions carefully. The product is applied directly to the bleeding area and pressed lightly to stop the flow of blood. It should be left there until medical help arrives.
Axiostat is an effective instrument for stopping bleeding and can save lives. It is therefore advisable to familiarize yourself with its use and to have it to hand in a first aid kit.
But Citosan use doesn’t stop on the battlefield!

What is chitosan? Chitosan is a biopolymer obtained by depolymerization of natural chitin. It is known for its biocompatible and bioactive properties.
Why chitosan?
- Antimicrobial properties: Chitosan is effective against a variety of microorganisms and can therefore prevent infections in wounds.
- Biocompatibility: It is well tolerated and promotes cell proliferation and migration, which accelerates healing.
- Moisture regulation: Chitosan can create an ideal microclimate for wound healing by retaining moisture and absorbing excess exudate at the same time.
- Pain reduction: Patients often report less pain and discomfort when using chitosan-based dressings.
Studies and evidence
Numerous studies have proven the effectiveness of chitosan in wound management. A meta-analysis has shown that chitosan-based dressings can shorten healing times and improve the overall quality of healing. Chitosan has achieved impressive results, particularly with chronic wounds such as diabetic foot ulcers or pressure sores.
Economic consideration
Although chitosan-based products are initially more expensive than conventional wound dressings, they offer considerable long-term benefits:
- Faster healing: Shorter healing times mean fewer visits to the doctor and lower care costs.
- Fewer complications: The antimicrobial properties reduce the risk of infections and the associated treatment costs.
- Patient satisfaction: Faster and less painful healing leads to a higher quality of life for patients.
Conclusion
Chitosan is a promising option in wound management, especially for hard-to-heal and chronic wounds. Despite the higher initial costs, it offers significant benefits for both patients and healthcare systems through better healing outcomes and lower long-term costs.
